Loafing Around

March 28th at Lisa & Roger’s place.

It started thusly:

Remember folks – it’s Dinner Club with Lisa and Roger on Saturday night.
There is no theme, so you can just come and loaf around.
Roger

Great I was hoping for Bread theme someday. We’ve never done that before. Very original.

It’s certainly times as these that we knead our dough. Rob, don’t forget to wear your loafers.
Don

Oh good!  I knead to work on my slice, I’m a bit crusty.
(Sorry for the crumby jokes but at yeast I’m trying.)
Bobbi

Bobbi,
Somehow I knew you couldn’t leaven that alone.
Don

….the wrapper gets panned…
okay, okay, I’ll baguette.
Bobbi

And dinner was great. A salmon pasty entree and Key Lime pie as I recall. Two of my personal fav’s.

Red Hot Chili Fest

Dinner Club for February 28th at Bobbi & Bob’s was described succinctly by Bobbi in the invitation.

Just a reminder, dinner club is this Saturday night at 6 at Sabines’ place.  As it turned out, all the planets lined up for us to host both of the clubs we are in at the same point, so it will be a double clubber night.

The theme is “Red Hot Chili Fest” and those of you from Club 2 should bring your best chilis to enter in this little contest.  (Rob and GeneAnn, being in both the old and new dinner clubs, need only bring half a pot of chili.)

We will taste and compare, and you will all have an opportunity to vote for your favorites.  Of course, Club #1 will not be able to win any of the great prizes (unless they break the rules and bring their own pot of chili).  Rob and GeneAnn could only be eligible for half a prize.

If anyone wants to bring beer or margaritas or cornbread or whatever, that’d be great.  Extra points for wearing items that support the theme (yes, GeneAnn, the red bra counts).

The Texas Chocolate Chili won!

What followed can only be described as a good old Irish foot-stomping, hand-clapping, whoop-whooping musical feast.

Southern Dishes & Yooker

January 24th at Geneann & Rob’s  – Southern Dishes, Hospitality and Yooker

Just how Southern was a matter of discussion. Oh, the Vintage Vinyl Rock & Roll Collection was great! Not sure what to say about the Bacon-Wrapped Cat Turds that Bobbi disliked so much.

I am quite sure I have no photographic evidence of this one. If you do, please pass it through.

I did eventually figure out Yooker however:

Euchre, hmmmm.  Bower, from the German “Bauer”

Which rules?

Euchre 24 – Each trick lasts exactly an hour and Jack Bower is always the last card played

Partisan Politics Euchre – Neither the left nor the right bowers are trump & corn dog is the winner
Variation: Crossing the Aisle Euchre – Both the right and the left bowers say they’re trump, but both are lying & not even the corn dog wins

Yooker Euchre  – Play with a Dummy hand
Variation:  Yooper Euchre which can only be played near a Mystery Spot in Michigan and the game is played backwards

Solitaire – What Mindy will be playing during Yooker

Rubber Ball – throw all the cards on the floor; take turns bouncing a ball and picking up 1 card, then two cards, then three cards before the ball bounces again and you can catch the ball. Whoever makes the biggest mess at Schaefer’s house wins

Piano Roll

Everyone remember the Piano Roll game last year on January 19, 2008? I just discovered an old, long lost video. Play it again, Sam…

Christmas DC

December 20 – That’s the date, don’t be late.

Here are the un-official Pictionary rules we used at dinner club.

Every man/woman for him/her self style…

Throw away the board. Throw away the timer. Dump the riff-raff rules. Give each player a word. Each player in order around the room takes a turn drawing. You get rewarded for drawing well; you get rewarded for guessing well. When someone guesses the answer, both the drawer and the guesser get a point. Simple as that.

Get the picture? As one person draws, everybody else goes bonkers trying to guess the answer. Call time when it’s obvious that all progress has been stalled.

The words were selected to keep it a Christmas theme. Hope you all enjoyed!

Don’t miss the “Father Christmas” DC Music Video.

Here are the results as tabulated by Roger, our official scorekeeper.

It's almost a 'draw' but GeneAnn Wins!

Way to go GeneAnn! It may have been this rendering of Ho Ho Ho that put you over the top!
